E. Kyler O'Brien (he/him/his) is an attorney and partner originally from Conway, Arkansas. His practice focuses on general litigation, family law, business transactions, and LGBTQ legal advocacy. He is licensed to practice in state courts across Utah.
Kyler completed his college education at the University of Central Arkansas in just two-and-a-half years. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in writing and sociology and graduated summa cum laude. He came to Salt Lake City to attend the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctor degree.
In law school, Kyler was the recipient of the prestigious Leary Scholarship in 2014. Kyler attended a Cornell University summer institute program in Paris, France, where he was enrolled in comparative legal studies and gender and international human rights courses. Before joining the firm, Kyler gained practical experience as a Quinney Fellow, researching emerging constitutional law issues. He also worked as a Legal Honors Intern at the United States Securities and Exchange Commission.
As lead counsel in some of the firm's most complex trials and appellate cases, Kyler has earned the respect of his peers as well as senior attorneys and judges throughout the state. In 2018, Kyler was awarded "Best Lawyer" by Q Salt Lake. In 2021, he was named by Utah Business Magazine as an "Up & Coming Legal Elite."
Kyler currently serves on the Board of Directors of the LGBT & Allied Lawyers of Utah. In his free time, Kyler enjoys hiking, traveling, film, and writing historical fiction novels. He is also an avid Star Trek fan.
